On November 27, 2015, a day before my 25th birthday, SM Prime Holdings, Inc. opened its 55th supermall, SM Seaside City Cebu! To say big is an understatement: it is the third-biggest mall in the Philippines (after SM Megamall and SM City North EDSA), biggest mall in Cebu, and the biggest mall development that SM has undertaken ever (their other bigger malls only became bigger after several expansions).
Located on a 9.4 hectare site in Cebu City’s South Road Properties, the 470,490 square meter SM Seaside City is the third SM Supermall in Cebu, after SM City Cebu and SM City Consolacion.
SM Seaside City is definitely a mall above else, as literally, everything can be found there! Last weekend, I, together with my family tried out new SM Bowling and Leisure Center.
SM Bowling and Leisure Center is located at the 3rd floor of SM Seaside City Cebu
The SM Bowling and Leisure Center at SM Seaside City Cebu has 16 well-appointed, modern synthetic lanes
It has the most up-to-date scoring system—much like those used in bowling centers abroad
The Bowling Center continues to attract competitive bowlers and enthusiasts who just want to have fun, like our family
Mom was the most competitive among the seven of us, and unfortunately, I was the loser, hahaha
State-of-the-art facilities have been invested in each lane
SM Bowling and Leisure Center completes the ultimate family and barkada pastime with 3 KTV rooms, a billiards area, gaming facilities, and a snack bar to round up the recreational offerings of SM Seaside City Cebu
We totally had a blast, and we will definitely be back to strike, bowl, sing, play and eat with friends and family at the forefront of bowling and leisure, SM Bowling and Leisure Center
Meanwhile, it was my third visit to SM Seaside City Cebu and the curious opening crowd seemed to have mellowed down, allowing for a more comfortable exploration of the gargantuan destination mall. Here are some of the things that are not to be missed out during your visit:
1. The Cube
The word Cube, when re-arranged, form the word CEBU. Massive when viewed from any angle, the 21×21-meter steel sculpture was built to reflect the strength and resilience of Cebuanos. It has become a landmark of its own, becoming one of the most photographed spots in Cebu even before the mall itself went operational.
2. The Seaside Tower
Opening later this year is a 25-storey, 148 meter tall skyscraper at the center of the nautilus-shaped SM Seaside City Cebu. Dubbed as the Seaside Tower, it promises 360-degree views of the majestic Cebu skyline when completed. The tower will also have a viewing deck and restaurants, for a worthwhile experience while you’re on top of this side of Cebu.
3. Ice Skating Rink
In case you didn’t know, there was an ice skating rink at SM City Cebu in the early 90s. SM Seaside City Cebu’s ice skating rink is olympic-sized so there’s enough space for everyone who wants to experience the magic of winter.
4. Food options
Aside from the Foodcourt (in the above photo) which overlooks SM Seaside City Cebu’s central garden, the mall boasts of a wide variety of dining options spread across all levels, from the best international imports (can’t wait for Tim Ho Wan), to homegrown Pinoy restaurants (excited for Ramen Nagi, and Niu by Vikings), to local favorites (really curious about Paolito’s STK ta Bai!)
5. Sky Hall
Located within the Sky Park, the Sky Hall could accommodated up to 1,500 seated guests for large functions and concerts.
6. Colorful spiral staircases
More than being colorful photo spots, these spiral staircases actually serve a purpose as they are color-coded based on the wings they are located in (e.g. Orange for Mountain Wing, Lime for City Wing, Aqua for Seaview Wing, Yellow for Cube Wing). Perfect for meeting in case you get lost in the circular designed mall, or when trying to find your parking spot.
Because jeepneys currently do not serve SM Seaside City Cebu, SM has deployed their MyBus which ply the SM City Cebu-SM Seaside City Cebu route (and vice versa). As it uses a contactless smart card, it is a preview of the future of public transportation in Cebu. They actually remind me of Singapore’s buses.

8. Chapel of San Pedro Calungsod
The Chapel of San Pedro Calungsod was the first structure built in the SM Seaside complex. Featuring a modern contemporary design, the chapel pays homage to our spiritual roots.
9. Sky Park
Recently dubbed as one of the best places to see Cebu’s sunset, the sprawling Sky Park is a welcome and much needed break from the hustle and bustle of the concrete jungle that is Cebu. Diverse dining outlets situated amongst verdant trees, charming ponds, and water features highlight the Sky Park experience.
10. Everything’s Here!
SM Seaside City Cebu is definitely a mall above else as it is home to major global brands, top national brands and the best homegrown brands. The mall also features 2 Director’s Club Cinemas, a 350-seat Large Screen Cinema with state-of-the-art laser projection system (the first mall in the country to use such technology), Centerstage, and four regular cinemas. Cebuanos no longer need to fly to Manila as the best in shopping, dining and entertainment have arrived in Cebu. There are 4,336 covered parking slots at SM Seaside City Cebu so finding your own spot will be a breeze.
